The Rulebook

The rules
of the sport.

Yes, there are rules. Yes, they're written down. Yes, we have a Toe Inspector. Here's the official TWC rulebook, in plain English.

01

THE OBJECTIVE

Win the round. Win the match. Don't get pinned to the post.

  • Interlock

Two competitors sit facing each other on the Toedium and interlock big toes.

  • Toe Down

You win a round by forcing your opponent's competing foot to touch the upright post, the "stanchion". The instant it touches, the round is over.

  • No half measures

There are no points and no holding back. It's a pin or it's nothing.

02

The Format

Best of 3 rounds. Best of 5 in finals.

  • Round 1

A coin toss decides which foot goes first.

  • Round 2

    The other foot. (No arguments.)

  • Round 3

The decider. Choice of foot returns to the coin-toss winner.

03

The Position

Strict, simple, non-negotiable.

  • Seated, on the line

Backside on the line, facing your opponent, square to the Toedium.

  • One foot up

The non-wrestling foot is raised clear of the platform at all times.

  • Hands flat

Both hands flat on the floor. No leaning on elbows, no grabbing.

  • No shoes, no socks

Footwear of any kind is forbidden inside the Toe Zone. Bare feet only.

04

The Calls

Two phrases run the entire sport.

  • "Three, two, one, toes away."

The Head Referee's call to begin a round. The toes engage on "away". Not before.

  • "Toe much."

How a competitor surrenders mid-round. Say it once, clearly, and the round ends in your opponent's favour. No shame in it.

05

The Officials

More referees than you'd think a foot fight needs.

  • Head Referee

Runs the round. Makes the call.

  • Two Corner Referees

One per competitor. Watch the hands, the seat-line and the raised foot.

  • Toe Inspector

Pre-match check on nails, skin, infections and tape. Their word is final.

  • Medical Officer

On standby. Toe wrestling injuries are real and occasionally spectacular.

  • VAR

Yes, VAR. Used for stanchion contacts, foot lifts and disputed Toe Downs in major bouts.

06

The Foot Rules

The Toe Inspector is your toughest opponent.

  • Trimmed nails

Cut short and filed smooth. Long nails are an instant fail at inspection.

  • No fungal infections

Any visible fungal condition is grounds for instant disqualification. No appeals. Sorry.

  • Chalk permitted

Grip chalk on the toes is allowed and widely used.

  • Tape, within reason

Limited tape is allowed for genuine injury support, never as a grip aid. The Toe Inspector decides.

07

The Character

It's a sport. It's also a show.

  • Walkouts & music

Each competitor picks their entrance music and walks out to it. Smoke, props and pyro permitted within the venue's rules.

  • Personas welcome

Lean into the character. Costumes, capes, theatrics, all encouraged.

  • Your Toe Wrestling Name

Every competitor must register an official Toe Wrestling Name with the federation. It goes on the card, the rankings and the belt.
